History
It all began near the end of the 19th century in Nipigon, Ontario where William McKirdy experimented with mixtures to make life among the blackflies at bearable, resulting in the development in 1906 (patent in 1911) for "an alleged new and useful improvement in fly repellants". With some scientific help, he concocted Repalfly from citronella oil, imported from Ceylon. His son, Jack McKirdy moved production to Fort William, ON (now Thunder Bay). This Canadian family business is now into the 4th generation being run by Ian McKirdy. As of 2013, it is no longer for sale in Canada, thanks to the bureaucrats of Health Canada. Currently exploring sales in the USA.
